When I started my sales career over twenty years ago working for Corporate Companies, I thought it was going to be hard to achieve monthly targets. It involved lots of cold calling, all day, every day. I loved cold calling because I’m a people person and I met new people each week, and over the months I got to know them very well. I learned a good lesson. People buy from whom they know like and trust, that’s how it’s always been. I was building relationships as I was going along and became familiar with my clients and when that happened the sales started coming to me.
Eventually, I left my full-time employment because I had always wanted to start my own business, which came from children’s bedroom furniture I sold on eBay.
Although most people liked my products, I realised they were not interested in buying from me right away. Orders continued to grow slowly but I still wasn’t making the income I needed to break even. This was disappointing considering the amount of time I was putting in each week. On days when there were no sales, I needed to increase sales conversions. However, the hundred hours I was putting in each week were taking me away from my family, and it was exhausting.
A short time later, I discovered online marketing and never looked back. The subject was so fascinating that I attended Boot Camps, several online courses, seminars, and workshops, and I couldn't get enough of it. As I worked on my new business venture, I met other like-minded women who inspired me and gave me the confidence and skills I needed to succeed.
When I combined my sales skills and newfound knowledge, I had an amazing light bulb moment because I realized that I could market these new skills as a service to others.
